Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 July 2026
Minaret is a prayer companion app made by Dawnscape ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what data Minaret handles, why, and what stays on your phone. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, we show no ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Because Minaret is a prayer app, your records inherently reflect your religious practice. We treat everything in your account as sensitive, and where the law requires a specific basis for handling it, we rely on your explicit consent, given when you create your account and use the relevant features.
What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. Through our authentication provider we receive your email address and, if your provider shares one, your name. If you use Sign in with Apple, you can hide your real email address and we receive Apple's private relay address instead.
Your profile
During onboarding you may share your first name, gender, date of birth, answers about your current prayer habits, an estimate of your daily phone use, and your signed personal promise. This profile is stored in your account so it follows you across your devices. You can edit it at any time in Settings.
Your prayer record
Each day's record — whether each of the five prayers was completed on time, late, missed, or exempt — is stored in your account and synced between your devices. It is visible only to you, with the limited exception of Companions, described below.
Companions
Companions is optional and entirely invitation-based. If you use it, the people you have accepted can see your chosen display name, and for the current day: which prayers you have completed or still have due, and your prayer schedule for that day. They never see your history, your profile, or your reasons. A short invite code identifies your account so a companion can send you a request; requests carry your display name. You can remove a companion, or leave the feature unused, at any time.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, a push token for your device is stored in your account so companions' nudges can reach you. Prayer time alerts themselves are scheduled on your phone, not sent from a server.
Purchases
Subscriptions are purchased through your App Store account and processed by Apple. We work with a subscription management provider, Superwall, to present offers and confirm your subscription status. We receive whether your subscription is active; we never see your payment details.
Support and diagnostics
If you contact us, we receive whatever you choose to include in your message and use it to help you. We may also process limited technical information, such as device model and app version, to keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.
What stays on your phone
- Your location. Minaret uses your location on your device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Your coordinates are not uploaded to our servers.
- Your prayer mat photos. Scan Alarm's mat photos are processed and stored entirely on your phone. They are never uploaded.
- Your app-lock choices. App Lock is built on Apple's Screen Time system. Which apps you choose to lock, and all related Screen Time data, remain on your device and are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
- Your preferences. Appearance, notification and calculation settings live on your device.
How we use data
We use the data described above to provide and operate Minaret's features, sync your account across devices, deliver notifications you have enabled, provide customer support, keep the service secure and prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and improve the app. Where we analyse usage to improve Minaret, we do so using aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you, and we may retain and use such aggregated information for any lawful purpose.
Who processes data for us
We rely on a small number of service providers to run Minaret: Google (authentication, database and push delivery infrastructure), Apple (sign-in, payments, notifications), and Superwall (subscription management). Each processes data on our behalf and only to provide these services. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Where data is stored
Our service providers may store and process data on servers outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses and equivalent mechanisms recognised under UK and EU data protection law.
When we may disclose data
We may disclose personal data where we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation or valid legal process, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public, or Dawnscape. If Dawnscape is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction; it will remain subject to protections consistent with this policy, and we will let you know of any material change.
How long we keep data
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, which removes your profile, prayer records and related data from our systems, subject to short technical windows for backups to cycle and any records we are required to keep for legal, security or accounting reasons. If you need help with removal, email us.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including access controls and encryption in transit. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please keep your sign-in method safe.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under UK and EU data protection law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to receive a copy of it. Most of this you can do directly in the app; for anything else, email us. If you're in the UK you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Minaret is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will update this page and the date above, and where appropriate let you know in the app.
